Jessica and Joe live in New York. They got engaged in Portugal and were married in Spain. Their whole international love affair came together at a beautiful seaside property in Barcelona, complete with a Brazilian Congo line and a late-night disco under the stars!
The couple’s vision for the wedding day was a colorful, tropical and, most importantly, FUN celebration with their large group of family and friends.
Mission accomplished!
As told to BWB by Jessica and her wedding photographer, Laura Stramacchia.
The Couple
Jessica – “Joe proposed to me in Portugal and we were supposed to continue our engagement trip in Barcelona. Unfortunately, his Grandma passed away right when we were on our way to Spain and we had to cut our trip short. We didn’t get to make it to Barcelona, which was the one city we were super excited to explore. When we were choosing a destination for our wedding we knew it had to be Barcelona, knowing that we would fall in love with it before even going since it is a beautiful international city with so much soul and you can’t beat the great weather. We decided to finish up our engagement trip where we left off!“
Wedding Destination – The town of Sitges and the Masia Casa del Mar near Barcelona, Spain
Laura – “The Masia Casa del Mar, built originally in the fourteenth century as a rural farmhouse, is a minimalist and versatile space, overlooking the sea and surrounded by a wonderful olive grove. The building inside is furnished with taste and elegance, while the various outdoor spaces allow total customization and the possibility of holding events both outside and inside the property (which is very useful if the weather conditions are not very favorable).”
Time of Year
The couple married in June, which is Barcelona’s summer season.
The Wedding
Laura – “Jessica and Joe’s wedding perfectly reflected their personalities, cheerful and bubbly from the getting ready to the party. The starting idea was a colorful tropical-themed event, attended by close friends and relatives and where everyone would have fun, and I really think they made it. Physically separated but united by happiness, Jessica and Joe started to prepare in two different locations surrounded by parents and lifelong friends; then they meet for the first time dressed as newlyweds in a picturesque corner in the center of Sitges, a small town close to Barcelona. Then we moved to the coast, towards the splendid Masia Casa del Mar. The ceremony took place on a small terrace perched on the sea, and it was very cinematic to see the newlyweds go down together with their bridesmaids and the groomsmen from the long staircase that connects the garden area to this space. Immediately after the ceremony, we took some photos with smoke bombs to add color to the portraits with bridesmaids and groomsmen, while the other guests moved to the swimming pool where the aperitif was served. After returning from the portrait session, Jessica and Joe danced with their parents and started the dinner, during which family and friends made their speeches moving all the guests (including photographers). Immediately after the cutting of the cake, a Brazilian drummer appeared (they chose him as they have Brazilian heritage) and he created a Congo line for the guests from the dinner area to the disco area, where the party continued into the night.”
Advice for other couples considering a wedding at Masia Casa del Mar Barcelona
Laura – “This is a stunning location and so well prepared for weddings, but make sure to plan for wind as you’re right on the coast and on a cooler day the wind can affect the wedding. Also, the sound systems are already installed in the disco space so make sure that you budget for their equipment and exclusive provider. Finally, you can only party outside until 11 pm as there are strict noise regulations.”
